March 2-3: Financial Empowerment Hackathon In Brooklyn

I have been to Finovate a few times, and once I mentioned to someone from Yodlee that they should a hackathon. To my knowledge, that has to happen, but I am so excited to hear about the Financial Empowerment Hackathon. The NYC Office Of Financial Empowerment is hosting a hackathon March 2 and 3 in DUMBO, Brooklyn to support the work of New York’s financial counseling centers. BTW, they offer free one-on-one personal financial counseling for low income New Yorkers.

They are calling on developers and designers to help us create an app that will empower New Yorkers to achieve their financial goals. There will be great judges, prizes, free food and beer. More importantly, this is a great
chance to help low-income New Yorkers move forward financially! For more information, go to the Hacker League page. Sign-ups are  available through OFE website, Developers of all levels are welcome to attend, and can form teams at the start of the event.

The team or individual who creates the winning app will receive $1,000; two second place winners will receive prizes of $500 each.
