The Wall Street Journal has a good video where Dow Jones Newswires reporter Shelly Banjo explains what donors should look for when picking a relief organization that is assisting the Haitian relief effort.

1. Give to a registered charity. Check Charity Navigator or Guidestar to make sure it is a licensed charity.
2. Find out where the money is going.
3. Look to see if there already have established forces already on the ground in Haiti.

I won’t endorse one organization over others, but I have heard that Oxfam International is doing good work.  Checking on their site, they announce that are sending 10 tons of equipment on Saturday afternoon. This kind of transparency can give donors comfort in knowing how their donations are being used.
